The Hong Kong dollar is the currency of Hong Kong. Our records show the Hong Kong dollar is the 14th most traded currency with us. The banknotes have both a paper banknote and polymer (plastic) banknote series in circulation. The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) is responsible for issuing the Hong Kong banknotes. The Government, through the HKMA, has given authorization to three commercial banks, namely The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited, the Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited, and the Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) Limited, to issue banknotes in Hong Kong.
The Hong Kong dollar is currently pegged to the US dollar. Not only is the Hong Kong dollar one of the most exchanged currencies in the world, but it is also used in the country Macau alongside the Macau pataca.
