The Turkish lira is the currency of Turkey. The banknotes are printed on paper material. The Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (TCMB) is responsible for issuing the Turkish banknotes.
After the latest series of banknotes was released in 2009, Turkey dropped the name “new lira” as the official name of the currency to replace it with only “lira”. Each banknote features Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic of Turkey, at different points of his life.
