Each dong has a portrait of Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam’s communist revolutionary leader, on the front and various scenes that reflect the country’s landscape and culture on the back. The Vietnam dong has been the official currency since 1946 when it replaced the French Indochinese piastre at par.
