The Peruvian Nuevo sol is the currency of Peru. The banknotes are printed on paper material. The Central Reserve Bank of Peru is responsible for issuing the Peruvian banknotes. The word “sol” translated into English means “sun”. Since 1857, Peru referred to the currency as “sol” however actual soles were not produced until much later. The Central Reserve Bank of Peru has taken action to prevent counterfeiting by producing currency with watermarks located on the front of the banknote, in the upper left corner.
