Symbol: ₡
Country: Costa Rica
The Costa Rican colon is the currency of Costa Rica. The banknotes have both a paper banknote and polymer (plastic) banknote series in circulation. Central Bank of Costa Rica is responsible for issuing the Costa Rican banknotes.
Costa Rica originally exchanged the peso, but switched to the colon in 1896. A main security feature of the banknotes is a map that will change color from purple to green when turning it. The Costa Rican colon has a crawling peg with the US dollar, meaning it is able to float within a currency band.
