The Tanzanian shilling is the currency of Tanzania. The banknotes are printed on paper. The Bank of Tanzania (BOT) is responsible for issuing the Tanzanian banknotes.
The Tanzanian shilling replaced the East African shilling as the official currency in 1966 and is referred to as ‘shilingi’ in Swahili. A main security feature of the bill is a 3D watermark of a giraffe.
